One day @ CAMPUS DRIVE

Hi, this is same Gaurav who was interviewed by Mr. Manish Upadhyay. Thanks for appreciating my talk with him in ‘Chai Ki Chuskiwith Manish’.

Yesterday, I had a call from a final year student. She asked me, “Sir, a company is visiting our university for campus drive, so I need your help”. Since I could make it to participate in final rounds of recruiting drives in my last semester and get shortlisted (selected in some drives), so she wanted to clear her doubts. We had a long discussion for half an hour. Then she hung up as she got her doubts cleared.

The last semester of final year students has commenced and season of Campus drives is at its peak. So there will bemany friends like her who are looking for a help from some senior who has experience of campus drive of a concerned company.

Since I have gone through the whole recruiting processes of turbine companies (wind turbines, steam turbines) and got placed. I wanted to share my experiences and learning which may help some of you.
**Please note, these suggestions are as per my learning and experiences

KNOW THE EMPLOYER…

Before appearing in any drive gather all details about the company, such as why they are recruiting, Names of higher authorities (MD, Board of Directors etc.) their branches, offices, organogram, products, services, Achievements, other competitors etc.

BE THE MASTER IN YOUR FAVORITES…

Many times interviewer asks about our favorite subjects, and this is the right time to bring the ball back into our court during interview. Prepare thoroughly any two or three technical subjects. This will help you in technical aptitude as well. Know the company background and prepare accordingly.

NOURISH YOUR APTITUDE SKILLS…

This is the second step to get into recruiting process. First step is off course your eligibility criteria. So maintain your academics in such a way that you can participate in any drive.
Different companies conduct different kind of Aptitude tests. Some companies have only General aptitude (Quantitative, comprehensive, verbal/nonverbal etc.)Some are having purely technical aptitude (I had appeared for pure technical aptitude test in drive of ‘Triveni Turbines Ltd.’ ) and some are having combined test i.e. ‘technical + General’ (I faced same kind of test in Wind world Ind. Ltd. ). So prepare well in such a manner that you can find your way in both situations

Group Discussion (GD)

Nowadays this has become integral part in recruiting processes because in GD, One can judge 10-15 participants simultaneously. They check our communication skills, ideas, views(all kind of views are acceptable) and confidence.
You cannot learn GD by reading only, you have to practice it. Arrange GD at your room, Canteen or at your college katta with your friends. If you practice it sincerely, I am sure you will not get uncomfortable when you face it in your first drive.  Always remember itis a discussion, not a Debate. So don’t try to put your views on others.  Since 80% of students get eliminated in Group Discussion, So prepare well yourself for GD, because this would be main obstruction if you take it lightly.
Judge should notice your presence by your VIEWS not by the VOICE”

RESUME

  • It must be neat, clear and legible.
  • Each and every word must be crystal clear to you.
  • Decorate resume with extracurricular activities and achievements.
  • Hobby should be constructive.
  • Content in resume must be relevant to you.
  • Please keep your resume updated.
  • Refer to standard formats but please don’t try to copy content. Because every child is special.
“Resume is our proxy image to interviewer, so don’t do anything which may spoil your image”

TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF!!!

You will find the same question in every interview.
‘‘Why do they need to ask this question when they are having our resume with them???’’
According to my experience and knowledge, interviewer just wants to check ourconfidence, communication and start the interview. If you give your introduction in well manner then you will get twin advantages. First, you will feel quite comfortable and second you can put your first impression.

Have you completed Industrial Training?

I could not forget this question. The question had changed the scenario of my interview in which I failed. Whenever, this question is asked, don’t simply explain the working procedure in an industry but tell them what kind of technology they are using, what techniques are implemented, how quality is controlled, how the Target is achieved etc. (For ex. If any company issuing 5S techniques then explain the terminology 5S and how it is implemented).

At last I just want to tell you that every one of us is having same potential, only need to explore it.Always be optimistic, drive your efforts in right direction and most important keep faith in yourself.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
