Art of Saying ‘NO’

“Om Gan Ganapataye Namo NamahShree Siddhi Vinayak Namo NamahAshtavinayak Namo NamahGanapati Bappa Moraya”

A Door bell rang on the Sunday morning in three storey building. A building in which Mr. Rajesh Varma was living. The Youngest & naughtiest member of the Varma family, Dips opened the Door,

Voice Came “बेटी, पापा घर पर है..?”,..Dips adjusting her doll in her hand and giving a strange look to the Person standing outside the flat. She turned and also gave a question mark look to her Daddy, Rajesh Varma, who was giving some signal to her daughter, Deepali, Dips said , “Papa …mmmmmmm..????..Papa ne bola hai Vo ghar par nahi hai”...

Unknown person jiggled.

Rajesh felt embarrassment as his daughter proved that she cannot lie to anyone. Rajesh rapidly came near to entrance and said to the person,” Areyy Shrikant..Aaj mera aana possible nahi hai..aap continue karo”. Rajesh said No to bicycling activity which their apartment people were doing on every Sunday.

Shrikant without wasting time..said , “ Bhaiyaji..aisa sab karne ki koi jarurrat nahi thi…just bol dete nahi aa sakta ..thats it”..Aapne befizul uss naadan bachhi se bhi jhute bulva diya..”

Rajesh Said,” Yaar Mujhe laga tum logo ko Bura lagega”…Shrikant replied with irritation and on childish behavior of Rajesh , “Directky bolte to bura nahi lagta..but aisa sab kiya to bura laga”…aisa laga You don’t want to see us”.

Koi gal nahi…  “ Chalo Enjoy Sunday”.

Rajesh without making eye contact said, Thanks.
I am quite confident that this type of situation has been faced by many of us..May be in Daily life or in working Life..where you intentionally said NO by different medium like on phone, not responded phone call, telling by someone as it happened in above case.

It is not that only people are facing this issue in their Daily Life... Even in Corporate or Professional Life also People are facing problem of ‘SAYING NO’.

In My Training Workshops, I do conduct Training Programs on “ART of SAYING NO” where I do train people that ‘how they can say NO’. Because for Indians it become very tough to say NO.

Before We learn How to say No, just first understand Why People cannot say NO directly:
  1. Don’t have habit of listening NO..so how they can say NO
Ex: Mujhe koi mana (NO) nahi karta to mai kaise kisi ko mana kar sakta hu.
  2. Mind Says, “ If We say NO..Other Person feel bad”
  3. If I say No, “What about My Image”
  4. Already Committed then how can I say NO by myself
  5. If I Say No, People will think…@#$%^&**(Means Any vivid thought which will come in your mind at that time)
Ex: If you don’t want to go to Movie with your friends due to some reasons and your friends are forcing to join them. You cannot say no because If You say No, That mean you are not social enjoyable animal.
Implications of Not saying NO:
Let me share you first, If You are not saying NO to that activity which you don’t want to do. Actually You are making your Life more TOUGH & difficult. Means if You agree to the things which you don’t want to do…You will not be present in that activity or occasion whole heartedly. Means Your Body will be present in Movie hall but Your heart will be at your home.

For Enjoying Life..Always apply KISS Approach….hmmmm ‘No other thoughts Please’…
KISS means ‘Keep It Simple & Sweet’. Say NO which You don’t want to do. The question comes here How to say NO..?

How to Say NO:
With Lot many ways you can say “NO” .We can say in a gentle, respectful, and courteous manner. Remember, Keeping your “NO” brief, polite, and fairly straight.. usually works best. Personal and social situations may require different approaches than work situations; here are some suggestions on how to do well at saying ‘NO’:
  1. Practice Saying NO: In Social plus Professional Life, before saying NO, practice in person that how can you will say NO so that it will not change the thinking of Yours…why I am saying this because, People when say NO they feel that They really did a big mistake. Take it Easy. Sometimes You have to say NO, because You cannot make Happy to Each & Everyone..And if You are doing so..You are actually hurting yourself.
  2. Identify the Resourceful Reasons: While Saying NO, don’t apologies for it. You didn’t do any mistake. You are just saying NO due to some concrete & Resourceful reasons. Why I am Saying Concrete & Resourceful Reason, because if You are saying NO to anything, You must have lots of YES in Your mind for other thing which you are planning to do at that time.
Ex: If You are saying NO to Competition which is going to be organized in college, you have to identify the ‘WHY’.. You are doing so..?

    Identify the Reasons:
Reason 1: If You feel scared and don’t want to do mistakes, You are stopping Your Progress. ..at this Point, you may think of saying NO but I will say YES
Reason 2: If you have taken Doctor’s appointment for your grand-ma. Then I think, we should say NO, Because Competition will also come in future but your Grand-ma’s Health..???Now I am giving you complete freedom to bring out maximum Resourceful Reasons before saying NO and you only have to decide. No body will decide on behalf of you.
  3. Say Nicely & Confidently: I have seen when people are saying NO, their facial expression looks like they are saying NO to Person who are asking for their Kidneys…
Don’t have to be serious, just cool and calm, have a fantastic smile on face and say “NO, Thanks Dear”..I am not interested..may be next time We can work out. You should not FEEL & LOOK like, you are doing mistake by saying NO. Remember, you feel, that You are doing MISTAKE only if You don’t have Resourceful & Concrete reasons as I have mentioned in step 2.
  4. Give Small Explanations’ of your other plan: This step or action works more in professional life. If You are saying NO to Your Boss for the New Project which Your Boss are going to assign you, Brief him about the current status of Your Work/Time/Project/responsibilities. Then only Your Boss get to know about your work load. Since He/She is also a Human Being, they will understand your concerns.
  5. Be Open & Be Honest with Yourself: If you don’t want to think some vague thoughts after saying NO, the only thing which you have to keep in your mind that You will be open & honest to yourself. If you say NO for right reasons (according to your mind), then you don’t have to think after saying NO.
Ex: This is very Risky example, I am quoting here..Yes Friends, I am giving example of Marriage…
If you come from office after attending a serious meeting or serious discussions, and after reaching at your home, Your spouse are asking for outing. But you don’t want to go out because  You have brought Your office via your mind at home. Just Say NO to Your Spouse and ask  for sharp 15 Mints.

Take a Break and think How much worst you can think in that 15 mints. After 15 Mints,Be genuinely listen to your spouse or do whatever you wanted to do. Because It will help you to decrease your mental pressure, temperature etc rapidly.

Friends My Message is Simple, “If You want to PROGRESS in your LIFE..Don’t make all efforts to SATISFY EACH & EVERY ONE in your surroundings”. Just Be FOCUSSED on your Life.
It will help you to take out a Sweet Juice of Your Life.

Remember friends, I am not saying that You Should be Self-Centered…In fact Human Beings are social animal. But “Animal at what Cost”. what I intend to say is “PRIORATIZE YOUR OPTIONS/WORK through which You can give justice to Your Passion, Life, Family and Nation at large. Saying NO in a good manner, will help you to make your life more easy & without complications.”

Stay Focused …Stay Healthy.

I know We all are saying YES to LIFE because WE have lots of Strong Reasons to LIVE BEAUTIFUL LIFE.

"चाय की चुस्की with मनीष"

की चुस्की with मनीष
“Take a Sweet चुस्की of Life with Me”
****************************************************************************

Hello…Hello…, “Am I Speaking to Gaurav Tidke”…voice came “ Yes Manish Sir…Aap Kaise ho..?”…I was surprised that he had my number and then I said, “ Gaurav, I want to meet You…Actually I would like to have a talk with you in My Program called “Chai ki Chuski with Manish”…& willing to Post this talk on my Blog,  “When will You be free”…Gaurav asked , “Sir, I am Thankful and lucky that You have chosen me to talk to you in your Program but May I know the intention behind these Talks..Because No-body knows me..And Why people will take interest in My talks”…Gaurav was thinking right at that moment. I said , “ May be You are not  famous but Your Success, Your Learning, Your Initiatives can help lot many people..And My intention is Simple, Connect one Dot of Learning with the infinite Dots of Life Learners (who really want to learn from other’s Life) because I believe, “IF YOU CAN LEARN FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S LIFE, YOU ARE ACTUALLY CONVERTING DECADES INTO DAYS. I am playing a Game of “Law of Compounding”..means When You will interact with me, the first person who will get benefited from You is You as You will be doing the Process of Introspection & the Second person will be Me. And once I will convert our talk into Interview Write-Up Mode...Lots of People get benefited”
At last My Sales Experience helps me to convert Gaurav for a meeting..

Gaurav said, “Sir, I will come to your home and We will have a talk. Thank You for remembering...Thanks...”

Read a Detail Interview (Informal Discussion) of Gaurav with me. But I have two requests right now:

1.   If You have good time then only, You start reading because it may consume your 10-15 Mints.
2.   I have a Question-Answer Session with Gaurav, and for making it easier to learn, in each question, I have tried my level best to explore the learning. These learning are mentioned as per my knowledge & Experience. You can also take more.

So Happy Reading & Fantastic Learning…!!!!!!!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------

He walked in the Competition Venue with utter confidence. His Walking Speed, his Posture & his attire was clear indications of Winner. He sat in the Center. He came to win the final round of ‘Brain-Tease’. The event which was organized by engineering college for analyzing the mental level of young students. I was one of the Judge for Brain-Tease competition for last round. After an hour of battle of knowledge and confidence, The Titan has been declared, and I have been called up on the stage to declare the name. I announced the name of the student who was 20 year old. I was really in surprised mode that He was in the First Year of his Engineering. He was trying to improve his communication Skills but He knew that he has Greatest Gift of God and that is “Never Die Attitude”.
Yes Friends..This incident happened to me 4 years back & I am Talking about, Mr. Gaurav Tidke - Guest of Our Chai Ki Chuski Program…A Great Learner, A Young Champ and Now a Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) in Wind World Ind. Ltd, Daman who recently has done his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.

Gaurav who is a Mechanical Engineer by education, Creative Technical Artist by Mind, Sporty by Nature & Risk Taker by Actions.

He has not only put himself in the list of Topper but also Secured 2nd position in Regional Athlete Meet 2008, at JNV Rajkot, Gujrat.(Under 19).He received “RAJYAPURASKAR” by The Bharat Scouts & Guides as well as Reached into TOP8 out of 200 teams in “DEVIL-DOZER”, Pick & place competition in TECHFEST2012, organized by IIT Bombay. I can say He is Multi-facet Personality.

As per our discussion, we decided to meet at my home for the ‘Chai ki Chuski with Manish” (चाय की चुस्की with मनीष) .., The discussion was as follows:
(** Please note-answers have been written as Gaurav said)

*********************************************************************************
Manish : Tell Us about your Life Journey till now..?
Gaurav : I am from Bhandara ,a place from Vidarbha (Maharashtra). My family includes five members, me, my Parents and two brothers. My father is a government employee. Being in a middle class family, we always faced the problem of money. My father didn't have enough fund to spend on my education. He was concerned about Educational Fees also. At last, My father shared that, I have to do something for my educational fees. At that time I was thinking that I should plan or target a top most government type school option where I will be getting great education as well as I have to pay very less fees for the same. I got an option of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gondia. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gondia is a School where anybody can get a chance to learn in this school. The only condition is that, You have to crack their examination. The Best thing about this school is Quality is at higher side and fees is at lower side. I cracked the examination of Navodaya Vidaylaya with extreme efforts and got the admission. Most of the Students were upset also because if they get admission in Navodaya Vidyalaya then they have to live in a hostel to complete their schooling and have to do chores of their daily routine by themselves. Now You can understand a kid from a school has to wash clothes by himself and then has to do studies also. Anyway I was happy because I fulfilled my first dream of getting admission in good school. My parents motivated me and I did my schooling from Navodaya. I cleared my 12th with 86%. After that I did my B.E. from Sevagram and got placement from college in Very Reputed Firm as a Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Engineer. Now I have given a first salary to my Parents.

Learning/Outcome:
For a Middle Class student or person, to think BIG requires Real Guts. More Metal require when that person wants to convert his Dream into Reality. Gaurav did that. By Reading this, it may feel very easy but to do hard work continuously and keep focusing on Goal require Real Thirst as well as MAD Nature. Because When You are MAD about your Goals, Nobody can stop You. So what I feel here, If You are more Thirsty in Your Life….Your are on the path of Growth. So for continuous Progress in Life, “STAY HUNGRY…STAY FOOLISH”

--

Manish : In Discussion, You said that, You started wearing T-Shirts from last 6 Months. Is it True that You didn’t wear T-Shirts till age of 23?
Gaurav : I didn't wear t-shirt for two reasons because I don’t have that much financial budget for the T-Shirt as well as My father likes the students or boys who are in complete formals. I wore Black shoes till the class 9th Std. After that only I thought of Sports Shoes. Since My father doesn't like, so I never crossed my father’s opinion. I genuinely respect my Parents. (While sharing this, his throat chocked with emotions and he was unable to speak a single word.) Whatever I am today is because of My Parents. Because My parents have actually compromised their Life to make My life complete. I want to share a very important point here, everybody knows about it but very few follows it , “ In this World Nobody is as Dear and Near than Your Parents. Believe Me, If You want to be happy in life, don’t hurt your Parents”

Learning/Outcome:

I have very different outcomes now, as Most of us prefer jeans because we feel that we are comfortable in it without trying formals. But if you start wearing formals, you will start feeling comfortable in formals also. I am saying this because employment prospective demands formals. It will give more advantages to budding entrepreneurs (image build up). I have three points here. The first : when We start wearing Formals regularly, it creates Good impression on other people. By wearing Formals, Gaurav became so habituated that he came for the discussion in complete formals while You can See I was in Jeans. By Seeing Gaurav first time in complete formals in Brain-Tease Contest, I was sure that he had come prepared to win the contest. Why this thought came into my mind because his Dressing was shouting loudly. Friends, Message is Simple , “First Impression is the Last Impression but I like to say , FIRST IMPRESSION IS EVERLASTING IMPRESSION”. Be well prepared for your Interview and discussions, I call it as तैयारी जीत की. The Second : If You do similar task again & again, you become excellent in it. There is not an option for Practice. The Third funny advantage: As per my research on Girls, Girls Says , “Boys look More Smart & Handsome in formals...” So yaha par तैयारी शादी की bhi ho jayegi….ha..ha..

--

Manish: Best Moment in Your Life…?
Gaurav : I have lots of great moments in Life but Best is when I got scholarship of LANCO Company for my achievement in academics and with that Prize money I had purchased Refrigerator for my Family. And another day of achievement when I drew my first salary and given to my Parents.

Learning/Outcome:
Real fulfillment come when you serve others and Real happiness come when you share your success with loved ones. Be focused on your development but don’t be self-fish for happiness. Spread as much as possible. Help people as much as possible. “REAL HAPPINESS LIES IN MAKING OTHERS HAPPY”
--

Manish: Worst Moment of Your Life..?
Gaurav : Worst Moment is when I rejected in First campus placement in last round in Bangalore but also Thankful that Due to that only I did more hard work.

Learning/Outcome:
Failure is the First Step of Success. Don’t worry if you don’t get success BE WORRY IF YOU ARE NOT TAKING ACTIONS. If you fail on something, start thinking about your initial strategies. Different Strategies are required for different Results. My quote for Life is, “UNIQUE ACTIONS CREATE UNIQUE RESULTS”.

--

Manish : If You didn’t get a Job, what would have you done..?
Gaurav: If I would have not got a job, I would have been in a Lectureship. Because this is the only platform where you can learn continuously.

Learning/Outcome:
No Profession is small or big. No work is SMALL or BIG, Actually we make it Big or small. It totally depends on you, how you see towards that profession/work. I am sharing this because whenever I ask bright students what they want to become in future, they usually share that they want jobs in MNC. Nobody or very few shares that they want to start-up their own business or want to go in education field. The major reason behind not selecting this profession is of BELIEFS which Our Society has embossed in our mind:

  1. Job Holders or working Professional have more respect than Entrepreneurs
  2. Entrepreneurship means Risk. (yes it is True, Entrepreneurship means risk, but RISK word      get converted to EXCITEMENT when you do business in your passionate field.)
  3. Teaching or Education Field has very lazy job. (It totally depends on you, what you do while teaching. I remember one Faculty Teacher in My MBA Course, He was excellent in Teaching as well as he was very passionate about Advertisement agency and related work. Now He is an actor in South Indian Movies.)

That means IF YOU HAVE EXCELLENT PASSIONATAE WINGS..YOU CAN FLY ANYWHERE IN YOUR DREAM SKY .

--

Manish : Do You have Crush..?
Gaurav: No..didn’t get time to think about it till now. My Parents have to play the role.

Learning/Outcome:
SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS DO RIGHT ACTIVITY AT RIGHT TIME/AGE.I see most of the students waste their graduation life in so called one side-one day Love which is actually useless at that point of time. You can enjoy with friends, you can do lots of masti. But do not indulge yourself into a serious business. Go Smartly. This is the age of Crafting future …go for it. Do not think or waste your energy into other areas. Packed Up your daily schedule with lots of enjoyable work which are related to Passion, Studies, Health, Fitness, Reading, Enjoyment (Only Clean Perspective),Sports, Extra-Curricular Activities, Hobbies, Social Cause and challenges. Because if you get too busy in your development, you will not get time to think on second thought because I believe (Empty Mind is Devil’s Workshop) Make Your Mind Full of Positive Work so Your Personality & Confidence will improve drastically.
--

Manish: Other than Education & Professional Life, “Where you find yourself good at”
Gaurav: I am good in Life. and

I am good in Extra Curricular Activity.

Gaurav performing in an Event
  • I have played disc throw game also, Secured 2nd position in Regional Athlete Meet 2008, at JNV Rajkot, Gujrat.(Under 19),Secured 2nd position in Regional Athlete Meet 2007, at JNV Gondia, Maharashtra.(Under 17)
  • I Won Quiz contests organized by Deptt. Of Forest, Maharashtra, Navegaon Bandh in 2 consecutive years (class VIII, IX) .
  • I Have received “RAJYAPURASKAR” by The Bharat Scouts & Guides & Attended “National Mini Jamboree-2009”  held at Ahemdabad, Gujrat.(selected in Troop of NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA SAMITI )

Learning/Outcome:
The Major concern of India is that Students are well qualified but they are not employable. How can we create employability in students? The best and easiest solution is students can create employability by themselves. If you throw yourself in different competitions, sports& extracurricular activities, your confidence will improve. You Strategic thinking will improve. You will get to know, where your strengths lies. In Nutshell Sports & Extracurricular activity help you to ‘KNOW YOURSELF MORE’ and give kit-kat break to your mind while studying.

Example: You may be developing in your studies but meanwhile if you participate in ‘Business Plan Competition’ or in ‘Debate’ along with your Friends, You will get to know about your thinking-ability, adaptability & team sprits. This will help you to justify your personality in interview or in your own business.

--

Manish : How You spare time for study in your daily routine?
Gaurav: I stayed in a room, and after waking up in the Morning, I used to go for a Tea or snack on chawk. There, I observed one thing, whenever I used to go, my mind got confused, because of my friends and their different issues. Everybody had one new topic; many of them had negative approach towards life. This disturbed me mentally. It became difficult to concentrate after reaching room because your attention has been drawn by situations & students. Therefore, I thought of a new solution, rather than going for Tea immediately after waking up, I started having Tea & Snacks after my studies. This technique helped me a lot to focus more on studies and at the end I got the results.

Learning/Outcome:
If you want results from your own work, you have to think what is working or not WITH YOU ONLY. Because sometimes you feel that what is working for you may not work for other friends. I am talking with respect to studies. You feel great when you study in the Morning but your friend’s focus is more when he studies in afternoon. So don’t compare your timings (strategies) with another. Focus on your strategies only. This will create results as well as confidence. “FOCUS ON VERY UNIQUE STRENGTH ABOUT YOU”.

--

Manish. Message for All Students
Gaurav: Don’t depend completely on Your Parents or College for making your Future. I believe in this 21st Century anyone who have faith on himself can craft a “Better Future for himself/herself”. And Keep a Mentor for Yourself in every aspect of Life. Sir, As I am having You as my Motivational Coach.

 Learning/Outcome:
Take Your Responsibility on Your Shoulders. Try New things by Your Own unique way, because “ IF YOU WIN, You will become Role-Model and IF you lose, You can guide to others”. But Reminding You- PEOPLE WHO DO WORK IN THEIR PASSIONATE AREA AND HAVE STRONG BELIEF CAN ACHIEVE ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. YOU don’t have to improve, YOU HAVE RESPONSIBILITY TO IMPROVE…AND THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF 21ST CENTURY’s LEADER

--

Manish: Your Definition for Success
Gaurav : “SATISFACTION” in whatever You are doing and this is the synonyms of Success.

Learning/Outcome:
Gaurav shared in a very simple manner but Satisfaction comes when you give your complete 100%. And remind you Friends, it is not tough. ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO DO IS WORKOUT (NOT TRYOUT) ON YOUR BELIEF AND THEN TAKE ACTION..

--

Manish. For Me, Anything You have to share.
Gaurav:

Sir, I remember, you have taken one Training Workshop called ‘X-PRESS’. One Poem I would like to dedicate you which I had written at that time. (By saying this Gaurav gave me this page)

Learning/Outcome:
If You feel good about anyone even your Family Members, Friends, Co-workers or colleagues, Appreciate them honestly. Because a small appreciation can work like a Tonic for all in critical stages of Life. Haan for family members, you can try (Magic Hug)..

By this above questions I have completed my Informal discussion with Gaurav which took 2 Hrs. Lastly..Given जादू की झप्पी to him & Thanks him.

Gaurav was the First Student to whom I have taken ‘Chai Ki Chuski’, But I can confidently say that he made me learn lot of things. Thanks Buddy for being with All of us.

 “SEE YOU AT THE TOP”.

Keep Moving…Keep Rocking.

"True Leaders are those who know themselves better"..

Favorite Book.

The Message is Simple...."START SMALL....but FINISH BIG"

For the People Who are Super-Stars

“ Ay Kya Bolti Tu..
Ay Kya Main Boloon..
Sun.
Suna..
Aati Kya Khandala..
Kya Karoon Aake Main Khandala..
Ghoomenge Phirenge Naachenge Gaayenge
Aish Karenge Aur Kya…”

Excited….Energized…..Thrilled….Happy and lot more intense feelings...for A Great Event which was happened in Khandala (Pune)..

Friends..I have voluntarily joined TISA (The India Stammering Association) where, Team TISA works for all the People across World who are facing problem of stammering or stuttering. It is No Profit Association which passionately works on "Making People's Life" more beautiful.4th National Conference of TISA has been organized in Khandala (Pune). The Participants were from almost all the states of India & from other Nations like US,Nigeria,China,Ukraine etc. We were total 106 Participants.

If You know anyone who is having problem of Stammering..Please let him/her know about TISA..or inform me.I will guide accordingly.Share this Message as much as possible so that People will got to know that "They are not ALONE in STUTTERING"..

I am planning to Provide 'My Communication Skills Training' to all the members of TISA. I believe if You want to happy for long time...Focus more of Fulfillment rather than Success..Because Some time Success doesn't give the joy which SELF-FULFILLMENT provides. If You can give 5 times more what You have to the People who required most...You will be getting 50 times more from God** ( ** Never expect anything after doing any social cause or any good thing...My experiences says it will come when You required most).

Now Feeling More Focused after attending this NC-2014 @ Khandala.

Thanks TISA. I will give my 500% in future events and activities. Special Thanks to Dr. Sachin Sir for giving me opportunity and having Trust on me.

My Quote for TISA : 'Action Cures Fear'.

By- A Great Fan of TISA.
